NEW YORK – Dec. 22, 2025 – PRLog — Blood on the Saddle‘s video for their 1984 hit theme song, “Blood on the Saddle,” is now available on Vevo, Apple Music, Tidal, Xite, and Boomplay Video through Ton-Up Records.
“That’s good news about our theme song. I’m proud of it. Single Girl is a traditional song, and Do You Wanna Dance is a light-hearted duet, but Blood on the Saddle is my battle cry to the world,” said Blood on the Saddle’s founder, Greg Davis, regarding the release.
The video was filmed in Santa Monica in the fall of 1983 for the Los Angeles cable TV show “LA IN.” It was broadcast before the critically acclaimed self-titled debut album, released in March 1984, which appeared on Chris Willman‘s Los Angeles Times “Top Albums of 1984.”
Spin Magazine described the band as “A high-energy fusion that doesn’t sound like punk or country. (Blood on the Saddle) is doing something new and a half twist different from what has gone before.”
Formed in early 1983 by guitar virtuoso Greg Davis, who had the idea of combining bluegrass with punk rock, he was joined by bass player Ron Botelho and drummer Hermann Senac. Annette Zilinskas, bass player for The Bangles, joined Blood on the Saddle in July of 1983 as co-lead vocalist, completing the original line-up of the band. Considered one of the most influential bands to emerge from the Los Angeles Country Punk scene, the band’s history was partially documented in the recent authorized biography of The Bangles and in John Doe and Tom DeSavia‘s 2019 book, More Fun in the New World.
Blood on the Saddle’s recent release, “First Blood,” a compilation of early recordings and acoustic demos, was released May 31, 2024, on Ton-Up Records. The band has released eleven albums and is credited with laying the foundation of the Alternative Country and Rock genres in the 90s. The band’s current lineup is Greg Davis (Vocals, Guitar), Dave Frappier (Drums), and John K. Stephenson (Bass), and they are currently working on a new album.

Blood On The Saddle Set to Bring Punk And Western to Downtown Los Angeles

Pioneering Punk & Western band Blood on the Saddle returns to play a Los Angeles date at the Redwood Bar on August 16, 2024, with the Mike Livingstone Trio and Habegger’s Celebrity Telethon. The band is celebrating the 40th anniversary of their self-titled debut album and has released “First Blood,” a collection of early recordings from the original Blood on the Saddle line-up, and includes several acoustic duets between founder, lead singer, and guitar virtuoso Greg Davis and co-lead singer Annette Zilinskas. The album features early versions of classics like “Ghost on My Heart,” “I Wish I Was A Single Girl Again,” and “I Thought I Heard Some Thunder.”

Formed in 1983, the groundbreaking band has pioneered its hybrid of traditional bluegrass, country, and punk through ten albums and laid the foundation for the Alternative Rock genre in the 90s. The current line-up consists of long-time drummer Dave Frappier and bass player Joe Dean.

The show starts at 8:00 pm, and tickets are $12.00 at the door.

In a June 2, 1985 article, Los Angeles Times Music Critic Chris Willman described Blood on the Saddle’s self-titled, 1984 debut album as “One of the most absorbing vinyl wonders the city has produced in the last few years.” Later that year, in the December issue of Spin Magazine, Andrea ‘Enthal wrote, “Blood’s album is full of the flying finger-tips and heart-pumping roots-rock that puts cowpunk on the edge where rock is doing something new and a half twist different from what has gone before.”

Formed in 1983 by guitarist and lead vocalist Greg Davis, with bass player Ron Botelho and drummer Hermann Senac, the band was often called “Cow Punk” or “Country Punk.” Singer/guitarist Annette Zilinskas joined the band that summer after leaving the Bangles. Forty years, ten albums, and several line-ups later, Blood on the Saddle has transcended those labels and earned its place in music history.

Blood On The Saddle To Headline X-Mess Sessions

LOS ANGELES – Dec. 5, 2023 – Country Punk legends Blood on the Saddle will headline a local show, X-Mess Sessions, presented by American Surf Skate Records, at the Moose Lodge 785 in Torrance, California, on Saturday, December 23, 2023. This is the band’s first local show since 2019 and marks the debut of the newest member, bass player, Joe Dean (The Wrinkling Bros).

Supporting acts include LMA, Gorilla Fist Fight, Fowl Play, Allover. Skeleton Bay, The Clowns, Right Hand Men, and Fired.

The appearance comes ahead of the 40th anniversary celebration in 2024 of the band’s self-titled debut album, “Blood on the Saddle.” The show starts at 3:00 pm, is All Ages, and Tickets are $5.00 at the door.

Greg Davis Brings ‘Blood On The Saddle’s’ Catalog To Ton-Up Records

Ton-Up Records, a division of Ton-Up Inc., has entered into an agreement with Greg Davis, the groundbreaking musician, songwriter, and founder of the legendary Country Punk band, Blood on the Saddle.

The new Ton-Up Inc. deal covers the worldwide rights to Blood on the Saddle’s recorded music catalog, including classics such as “I Wish I Was A Single Girl Again,” “I Thought I Heard Some Thunder,” “Endless Highway,” “Born With a Hole in My Pocket” and more.

One of the most influential and important bands to emerge from the early 80s Los Angeles’ music scene, Blood on the Saddle arguably helped lay the foundation for the Alt-Country genre. Greg Davis successfully developed the idea of mixing Bluegrass with the aggression of Punk Rock, demonstrated in the band’s ten albums and forty-year career.

The original line-up consisted of: Singer/Songwriter/Musician Annette Zilinskas (The Bangles, The Ringling Sisters, Medicine), Drummer Hermann Senac (Guilty Hearts, Crowbar Salvation), and Bass Player Ron Botelho (Groovy Rednecks). The current line-up includes veteran drummer Dave Frappier, who has been with the band since 1994, and newly recruited bass player Joe Dean (The Wrinkling Bros.).

Under the terms of the agreement, the entire Blood on the Saddle catalog from 1984-2013 is now available under the Ton-Up Records label. The acquisition and release of the Blood on the Saddle catalog comes ahead of the upcoming 40th Anniversary of their self-titled debut album, released in March of 1984.

Greg Davis formed Blood on the Saddle in 1982. The twang-and-thrash band spearheaded the L.A.-based cowpunk scene that included Tex and the Horseheads, Gun Club, and Rank and File. “It’s safe to say Blood on the Saddle and the Hickoids both invented cowpunk independently,” says the singer-guitarist. “We opened for the Circle Jerks, Dwight Yoakam, Social Distortion, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Minutemen….” Singer-guitarist Annette Zilinskas, who was also Davis’s girlfriend, left the Bangles to front BOTS from ’83 to ’87.

The first six BOTS albums were released on labels such as Chameleon, Stiff, SST, and Kill Rock Stars. “We were provisionally signed to MCA in ’85, which meant we couldn’t do anything for six months, then after that they said, ‘Never mind.’”

After years of self-destruction and band-member overdoses, Davis has reformed the band. He just recorded his first new album in nine years at Tom Yearsley’s Thunderbird Analog Studio in Oceanside.

“I met everyone in my current band in AA,” says Davis, who now lives in Encinitas. “I met Robby [Tavares, bassist] because he was wearing a Vandals T-shirt. I told him I was in that band and toured with them in Europe in ’89. I was just a hired guitar gunslinger playing dumb punk-rock songs.”

Davis just started playing locally with the new lineup, which also includes drummer Eddie Rojas.

“The big joke was that if Greg Davis asks you to be his bass player, don’t say yes,” says Davis. “I had two bass players who died from an overdose. Twice I had to cancel gigs because my bass player died. I told the promoters, ‘They’re dead, what can I do?’ When I started getting my bandmates from AA, their survival rate went up.”

With six months of practice under their belts, Blood on the Saddle will appear February 12 at the Shakedown Bar in Loma Portal.
